When you successfully manage all the parts of your life instead of letting all the parts of your life manage you…then you are the dominant influence in your life. When your issue, addiction, pain, or adversity is the dominant influence in your life, then you end up losing. Comeback Road is about giving you the tools, techniques, and strategies to win over the darkness of your issue, addiction, pain, or adversity.

In your heart of hearts, in your innermost being, in the place of your soul where you tell the truth to yourself no one else knows, you know you can grow out of every darkness you face. At Comeback Road meetings, we give you the tools to grow. Let's look at an example. Let’s say you wanted to plant a garden but had no garden plot, no seeds, no gardening tools, no resources of any kind. No matter how much you wanted to plant a garden, no matter how motivated you are, without the resources, you achieve nothing. In the same way, Comeback Road weekly meetings give you resources or help to find the great resources you already have but may have never found.

To do combat against an issue of darkness or adversity, you have to be honest about the darkness and also honest about what you have at the moment. You may not know it, but you have more resources than you know at any moment. In addition to being honest about where you are and what you have, to combat the darkness, you have to have a mindset refusing to give in and give up on where you are going. Being willing to change is important but the willingness to change is not enough. Willingness to change is not enough because without a magnificent reason to change, your willingness to change can rise and fall as the darkness attacks.

As an example, let’s go back to our gardening scenario referred to above. Let’s say you have all the tools, resources, land, seeds, and energy it takes to plant a garden. You have what it takes, you till your soil, and you plant your seeds. With the right amount of heat, water, and sunshine, your garden grows, and at the end of each growing cycle, you harvest. Treatment and recovery programs serve as the resources of heat, water, sunshine, seeds and soil. In this respect, many treatment and recovery programs work and work well…giving hope and encouragement to persons with specific issues and specific needs.
